Chapter 8 " Supporting Student ELearning"
Likes/Dislikes
Chapter
8 “Supporting Student ELearning emphasized many key components. According to
the text on page 209, illustrates ELearning as “not a learning goal per se but rather
a structure or context for technology- supported learning through which content,
communication, critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and production
can take place.” This not only shows the pros of ELearning in schools but as
well as the negative impacts. Researchers also suggests (page 209) that
blending face to face results in higher quality achievement and higher successful
completion rate. Although Learning has great benefits such as convenience, flexibility,
and usage of enhanced digital technology. I feel that implementation of digital
learning shouldn’t be geared to every student. For example, as stated on page
211 “second graders are communicating regularly through email with experts
about class content”. I disagree that students this young shouldn’t be
introduced to a web based learning environment as such.
Clarification
As the
text states on page 211 of how results of distance education for grade levels
K-12 are effective and developing I need more clarification on this aspect. As I
too agree that web based learning has several positive benefits how could these
benefits too be so greatly with students as young as Kindergarteners?http://www.news.illinois.edu/news/08/1126elearn.html
Classroom Connections
I have
had the opportunity to experience ELearning and several other different types of
web based education environments in my educational career. This semester alone
I am taking a total of two fully online classes (ELearning) and one hybrid
class.

Digital Storytelling
Likes/Dislikes
I feel
that the articles emphasized Digital Instruction and its entirety very well. Digital
Storytelling is such an effective learning tool used in many classrooms today.
As the reading explained, Digital Storytelling has many positive benefits that foster
a great learning environment. For example, research has shown that digital
technology increases student’s amount of retained information. I believe in
this case digital instruction should be implemented in all classrooms. Not only
does it promote and improve literacy skills for students, it also is a beneficial
instructional tool for teachers as well.
Clarification
One
thing I need more clarification on is the concept of the seven elements of
digital storytelling and how it is properly implemented in daily classroom for successful
learning and instruction.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_storytelling
Classroom Connection
While
completing my observation hours last semester I had the opportunity to view a
digital story lesson personally. Students created their own stories using
pictures, music, and videos I loved this lesson because it allowed not only the
students but as well as the teacher to become more creative and original.
